This fascinating aviary is another example of one of the wonders you’ll find at Xcaret Park located in the Riviera Maya just minutes from Playa del Carmen. With a huge investment, Xcaret created this 5,000 m2 project where you can find about 750 different species of birds.
Shrine of the Birds
Prepare to enter a world where you will find 7 different types of environments ranging from lowland and middle jungle to mangrove jungle. Besides featuring breathtaking waterfalls, it features a small lake and even a suspension bridge. This is all made beautiful by the colorful feathers and songs of the 70 species of birds flying around.
Along with allowing us to admire and learn a little more about the birds that inhabit this place, the main objective of this impressive aviary is the preservation and reproduction of birds, especially those in danger of extinction, such as the quetzal, the golden eagle, the pink flamingo and the king vulture. The aviary has incubators, a play area and a special area for hummingbirds.
Long live the Macaws!
In the aviary they have created the necessary conditions, as best they could, so that the birds can feed themselves and when they are ready can be returned to their original habitat. It is noteworthy that Xcaret continues its successful Red Macaw breeding program, which has been recognized as the safest refugee program in all of Mexico. The birds are eventually released into their natural habitat giving a red tint to the blue sky.
